TARP is Teen Advocates for Risk Prevention (T.A.R.P.) is a program of AIDS Alabama South aimed at providing High School-aged young people in Mobile and Baldwin county with the education and tools needed to be advocates for sexual and health risk prevention in their schools and communities.

PLAN

T.A.R.P. will hold virtual training meetings on the second and fourth Wednesdays of each month. The first meeting of the month will focus on a specific topic and training, the second meeting will be a discussion about how to implement that topic in daily life. Topics will include Stigma, Sex Ed, HIV Prevention, Healthy Conversations, Consent, Abuse, Alcohol & Drug Use, and many other topics relevant to young people.

PROGRAM

It is the Mission of T.A.R.P. to provide education and training to young people to help them become sexual health, stigma reduction, and risk prevention advocates in their schools and communities.

 

T.A.R.P.’s goal is to train at least 2 young people from each high school in Mobile and Baldwin County, as well as from the Home School Communities for a total of approximately 70 young people.

T.A.R.P. will achieve this goal by hold virtual training meetings on the second and fourth Wednesdays of each month. The first meeting of the month will focus on a specific topic and training, the second meeting will be a discussion about how to implement that topic in daily life. Topics will include Stigma, Sex Ed, HIV Prevention, Healthy Conversations, Consent, Abuse, Alcohol & Drug Use, and many other topics relevant to young people.

Nearly half of all new HIV diagnoses in Alabama occur among young people between the ages of 13-24 years old.

OUR TEAM

AIDS Alabama South has been working with youth and young adults for many years.  We facilitate and participate in numerous HIV prevention and advocacy events continuously. The new program is an opportunity for HIV-positive youth to connect with their peers, learn how to manage their health, build relationships and navigate the health care system as they grow older
